Abstract
Pollarding can be viewed as part of an ancient system of tree or woodland management dating back at least a thousand years. The pollarded tree is often a habitat in its own right supporting a wealth of epiflora and fauna. Many are now ancient trees, their management requirements becoming increasingly complicated as the years pass.
