Abstract
This report presents findings from an ExCASES/RENEW research project which explores how we can use learning from the People’s Plan for Nature – and other innovative participatory public engagement processes – to embed deliberative democracy within the nature sector. It evaluates the impacts of the People’s Plan for Nature citizens’ assembly, and draws on the expertise of the study’s diverse, transdisciplinary and cross-sectoral participants to offer lessons for policymakers, practitioners and academics wanting to integrate more democratic decision-making processes for biodiversity renewal. A spotlight is cast on deliberative innovations and recommendations are provided for how the sector can apply these lessons to pull together as a more holistic, deliberative democratic system to benefit people and nature.
